Every time I check real estate prices at places I like in US it is in that ball park price range, if not more. Totally accept that preferences, taste are personal and different though. I would not trade my flat with a "villa" twice as big in some desert compound, but that's me.
$15000 USD annual property tax would be extraordinarily expensive for 1300 sq ft anywhere in the US. Definitely not the norm.
