Yup. I once followed a Chinese carrier into SYD from Asia. Approaching the Australian mainland, with ZERO weather (easily determined by simply looking out the
window), the Chinese aircraft ahead requested a weather diversion and then kept diverting further and further left of track. They could only have been avoiding the coastline. I also saw one of 'em fly right through the upper part of a large Cb near Hainan Island. We were flying the opposite direction and, having diverted around said Cb, had a very clear view as they flew right through it.
