Russians will call them terrorists. If commando consisted of Russians, we may call them insurgents. If they are Russians with Ukrainian nationality, they are guerrillas. If they are infiltrated Ukrainians who secretly passed the border, they are probably special forces.
Of course we talk about deeds on the verge of legality because combatants are supposed to wear uniforms, but given the fact that pilot was engaged in fulfilling illegal orders to attack civilians repeatedly, we may agree that this is somehow acceptable. If he would be killed by a car bomb along with his wife and kids, we would probably condemn it.
