I remember spending a week island-hopping in the Caribbean, on business, a while back. In many cases, the only feasible way to get from Island A to Island B was to fly via Miami. I doubt that's changed much.
Right so special use case in the Caribbean back tracking via Miami between isles .
Geopolitically the many isles group have little inter regional regional demand.

And if you read what was written it’s a critique not a damnation or death bell on the concept where it works .

Two scenarios US Domestic connections where it replaces rail ( on time and distances) and primarily feeding long haul elsewhere.( not so much inter regional) and in both places use is maintained via a range of business contracts and “awards” rather than convenience for the consumer.
