I consider that statistic to be a lie by omission. The whole truth requires disclosure of: (1) all the tests AvMed requires candidates to undergo, (2) all of the restrictions imposed on the medical certificates issued, and (3) the number of people who gave up in frustration at the complexity or due to being unable to pay for the required tests.
Ask an aspiring commercial pilot whether a medical certificate with a 'Day VFR only' restriction on it is worth anything except lining the bottom of a bird cage. That's what the zealots in AvMed want to do to pilots with colour vision deficiency, then say with a straight face: We didn't refuse or cancel their medical certificates.
Imagine if driver licensing authorities imposed a 'daylight driving only' restriction on the licence of all drivers with colour vision deficiency and said: We've never knocked any of them back on their licence applications. There'd be blood in the streets.
