I was in a similar position although younger and not in the forces, I made my decision easily with the following quote..

"When I am 65 I would rather look back and say I am glad i did, rather than saying I wish i had"

Life is too short buddy and youre a long-time dead..

and without being in the know, from what i have heard... airlines like maths and english obviously but the flying licence is all that matters.
