DCA, DOT ATG, CASA and one looks at overseas equivalents they still use the same names eg FAA, CAA etc etc
Most of the overseas equivalents have had a change of name or two over the years. The FAA in the US was originally the Federal Aviation Agency before being renamed to the Federal Aviation Administration; so a name change but not a change to the initialism. Prior to the Federal Aviation Agency there was the Civil Aeronautics Administration.
In the UK, prior to their Civil Aviation Authority there was the Air Registration Board.

At least part of the change with CASA was splitting out the ATC accountability to Airservices Australia.
