Got to agree, just as safe as anywhere else. Isn't the Long Stay outside CTA £30/day, whereas in CTA it is £67.50/day so you are paying for convenience only.
You could park in the town centre Market or Library car parks for £8/day, but I think you might have other issues than fire risk, parking their for an extended period of time, you might never see your car again.
