To be honest I had completely overlooked the fact that Emirates are spending a huge sum of money on upgrades to the A380. But the middle of the next decade is just under 12 year's time away. I should imagine that the Emirates fleet of A380s will have halfed by that time if not more.
By 2035 the Emirates fleet won't be revolving around the A380. Their day's would surely be numbered by then hence why Emirates are possibly interested in making such a huge order for future requirements.
I personally haven't seen or read anything about this order except for here on pprune. As another poster pointed out, any such order if true would more than likely be announced at the forthcoming Dubai Air Show.
