It doesn't but it doesn't matter how good your camera is, you're not going to be able to read a ship's name through cloud (still better than spending many hours at 200' trying to read the name through a pair binos though)!
Couldn't you do it with an IR camera, I ask because many moons ago when I was working on a Royal Navy Aircraft that had been involved with Ferranti doing the TIALD pods trials, the Ferranti guy was telling us they were at Edinburgh doing some testing and they had some reverse lettering appear across the screen, it puzzled them as they thought they had a faulty unit until they realised it was the heat differences of the metal hangar wall and was picking up the white painted ( and hotter ) Ferranti painted on the other side of it.
