EMA has been known as 'Nottingham' in the OAG Worldwide Flight Guide for some time. Leafing through that marvellous tome seeking 'East Midlands' would see you wasting a lot of time. The business world uses OAG as its travel bible.
So it seems logical to consolidate it in the re-naming decision.
I don't like commercially-driven name changes any more than anyone else, but in this case it seems sensible.
