Not sure where you get this idea. I bought a house and EK pays me 5 500 euro every month to live in it.
Lots of reasons to hate EK but wages ain't one of them. It's easy to try make the numbers look bad by discarding the items that don't matter to you. Arguably, it is a short sighted approach and hardly objective. That said, at the end of the day, EK isn't a good fit for everyone and if there are doubts it is probably better to stay put.
