I believe they use them in turns every couple of years in order to preserve airframe life.
Talking of Chalgrove, the airfield (plus one of the meatboxes) was on telly a couple of months ago; TV series called 'The Prisoner' and I think the sequence at Chalgrove was filmed in about '68.
