I vaguely remember that Airbus originally were going to display the flight control position cross on the PFD at all times but after flight testing it was changed to only display on the ground. Not linking the sidesticks removed 100lb from the airframe. A lot of the early design characteristics were examined by a technical working group within Balpa and they wrote a paper about the aircraft. They may still have a copy.
