Correct - Tarakan Juata.
Interesting spot - Juata is one the world's first oil fields - been on production since about 1890 (and looks like it - a green and pleasant land it is NOT). The Japanese bombed the island in 1941, the Dutch then blew the place up , the Americans bombed it during the war, the Japanese blew it up when the Australians invaded. the Indonesian freedom movement blew it up in about 1947 and the dutch blew it up before they left. Still keeps chugging away tho'.
It's very close to the Sarawak border - about 60-70 kms to Tawau and not much further to the S Philippines. The local fishermen all seem to have invested in long slim boats, painted matt black and powered by 3 massive out-board motors that take them up to 40 kt I believe. They all leave at dusk and are safety tied up at dawn. They look just like the fishing boats you see in Gibraltar. Fishing seems to be a lucrative pastime - which is quite odd as you rarely see any fish on the quayside - I expect they're in such high demand they're sold long before the average tourist gets down there.
