There are several areas Cathay could assign these cadets that would be of benefit to their ‘career development’ by actually learning something relevant to the role of pilot.
Areas like flight dispatch, IOC, ENG. Maybe even put a team together to wash the outside of those disgusting looking freighters.
It’s so disgusting and disingenuous to claim it’s for their ‘career development’ to assign them to work at the airport, in customer service roles, where Cathay has a self induced manpower problem. They will learn nothing that is of any relevance to their future role.
