Your other problem is anything under 20 ish metres, the RPG blast is also a threat to the person firing it.
Not just soft earth, he was avoiding mined areas. According to the video he had a very small space to turn in without entering a minefield. That also explains the approach path to the trenches. The difference between the Ukrainians and the Russikes was really shown by the Ukrianians checking the collapsed trenches and digging out a trapped Russkie.
