I'm reminded of the tale of
Kwihnai Tosabitu ("White Eagle"); a Comanche leader and medicine-man. In 1874 he incited his warriors to attack a group of buffalo hunters in the Texas Panhandle, in what became known as the Second Battle of Adobe Walls. He assured his followers that by performing the Sun Dance in the days before the attack they would be invulnerable to the buffalo hunters' bullets. He watched proceedings himself from a distance.
Following the ensuing debacle, the survivors renamed him
Isatai'i ("Wolf Vulva"). I'm sure that the Russian language has an equivalent.
