I worked on a similar thing for hiring software developer apprentices and the best way I can describe it is like you want 10 fish, hope 100 apply, but the whole sea applies. I'd guess there are some of the digital interviews they just won't have time to review. After reviewing them, they likely had more they wanted to progress than they can accomodate for and are trying to cut it down. They'll have set assessment days and can only fit so many into that. Absolutely try not to feel too defeated if you're not successful getting a place. There is a huge amount of luck coming into play here. They have 30 places to fill and there absolutely will have been more than 30 applicants who would make excellent airline pilots.
I wouldn't be surprised if more of us receive the above email soon as they work through candidates.
Where did you see they have got 30 places only? Would love to know how many people progressed to the assessment day... sadly information unavailable to us
