Most of the closed strips had fallen into disrepair, and would require substantial work to get them up to scratch. I sicerely doubt that many will again become "compliant", but perhaps the strip inspector will be "compliant". It would never have happened in Bert Wickham's day.
Kieta actually re-opened a few years ago for limited PX ops.
