The loss of the whole TR assembly in flight will cause a non trivial CG shift.
I do remember that when the Seahawk sim was built, they modeled the loss of TR thrust, the sim program modeled (for reasons beyond me) that whole thing coming off.
Possibly based on the Army planning worst case for their sim, and "someone shot the tail off" being a reasonable worst case for combat harm...not sure, but it struck me as interesting when I learned about it.
What pilots reported who lost the TR was "it was a bit different from the sim but it was still a brown flight suit moment" more or less.
As I watch those few seconds I wonder if, or how much, they lowered the collective in an attempt to get it to stop rotating like that.
Looked like it all happened in a hurry.
And then there's the whole "what was that?" moment when it came off and things went pear shaped.
Has anyone here flown a Huey, or 212 or similar variant, where the whole darned Tail Gear Box came off?
