I would imagine the western tanks etc are in training to operate with the support vehicles, Bradley’s, SPAA’s, Marders etc to work up as combined brigades. It’s ok teaching abroad on individual platforms but at some point you need to pull all the platforms together as a cohesive force using both Westen and Ukrainian tactics.
On a footnote when we were talking ages ago about training on the As-90’s in the U.K. and the fact they were doing a lot of reversing about on the ranges.
The reason may be simple, in the training on the Challengers they found the Ukrainians would turn the tanks around to move back, apparently the T-72 has a really slow and dismal reverse gear on it so they would turn the tank to retreat from the firing point.
However the likes of the Challenger can reverse at near enough the same speed as going forward, so it is advantageous to reverse and thus optimise the protection of the frontal armour. Hence drilling it into them the habit of reversing off the field.
