A 321LR is halfway between the 738 and an XLR. So an LR can reach HKT or MNL, but you need an XLR to HKG. The XLR can make it as far north as PVG or far west as BLR or MRU.
But the first 20 XLR’s will only be on primarily domestic sectors til at least 2027, so all these dreams of flying narrowbody aircraft to dozens of Asian destinations are still years away.
Perhaps they'll use the XLR on AKL-RAR to minimise the diversions.
