To be operated by what airline ? Why would they be flown to the US to be scrapped ? That can be done anywhere.
As far as I know, Delta is the only US B717 operator...and they still have B717s parked in the desert.
Convert them to freighters ? Why...lots of B737s and MD88s to be converted to freighters.
