It’s nothing new. This kind of thing has been reported on watchdog and in the media for years. In any other circumstance you wouldn’t just give your car keys to a random person at a random location so why do people do it at airports?
I’d always park my car myself or only use the reputable company that I knew had a secure facility. Even then though I’d rather keep my keys and park myself and take the shuttle bus than give some random bloke my car -especially anything with a decent engine or curb appeal that they might be tempted to take for a joyride (which is also frequently reported).
