Thanks for the comments, but I fear I may not have put it clearly enough.
The files are NOT in my pc, they are files I wish to download from the Internet. This is why I wondered if the problem was related to Netscape 7.1, but all seems well in the preferences.
It may well be a matter of permissions, XP thinks I should not be downloading these files, so it stops me. I have NO idea where to look for this sort of problem though
Bring back Win 3.11. I could find my way round that.....
