It does not matter what the Bank of England says or does - people know that they are going to have to be careful with money for the next five years - minimum. I remember the argument put out in 2008 -ish that historical evidence showed that it typically took 10 years to shake off a banking crisis. That now looks about right though QE might have dragged things out a bit. A straight forward cyclical recession shouldn't take more than a couple of years providing financial imbalances stay out of the way.
