The Elizabeth line wasn’t funded by a local Council that has always claimed to be broke. Well now it truly is as the Council was bailed out by the government to stop it going bankrupt. They have spent £300m on a project that won’t benefit the town’s people. They can’t even use the reduction in road traffic as an excuse as they are planning a 60% increase in road traffic heading for the airport. By the time it is opened I expect over £200m will be written off. Well that would have paid for a lot of bus passes.
No wonder the airport operator said no, as it was even unaffordable to them and their 2 shareholders are worth $2.4bn
