I remember when supermarkets started to open on Sundays. Existing staff were promised enhanced payments while new staff would be on new contracts. So what happened? Existing staff were then encouraged to leave or sign up for flat rate pay by accepting one off payments.

We now have a situation at Luton where people are contracted to work 24/7 shift patterns including bank holidays for no extra pay. The whole situation sucks and adds to the town’s reputation for low paid jobs and in-work poverty.

When people moan that their luggage is delayed at 2 in the morning then tough. You should have paid more for your tickets because there is a staff shortage.
Thats not true though is it. We’re not offered the choice to pay more. And often many of these companies have made more than enough profits to be able to pay their staff decently but chose not to. BA for example made huge profits precovid but paid out to shareholders while trying to cut their staff costs ever lower.

It’s also not a collapse of values. The UK is a Christian country in name only with a majority of people not following Christianity according to the 2021 Census. People should be free to work and travel on any day they want. If you want to celebrate a certain event then take leave the same as anyone else who wants to celebrate Hanukkah, Eid or their birthday.
