China does have a very tight grip on many rare-earth metals which have strategic uses in many high-tech products and it will take many years for other sources to be developed, if they can under existing laws ( environmental ).
Australia has them and plenty of it, not far from where I live actually, they are mined and processed but not in the volumes China does because those products are manufactured there. If that ends permanently then no doubt we will ramp up for the export market. An investment tip for you.
