And Helium is indeed the gas used.
They should get really innovative and go for maximum lift = pure vacuum..... An interesting airship was the U.S. metal clad ZMC-2 of 1929, the hull was rigid and made of alclad aluminum, which was developed by Alcoa especially for the airship. The hull material was .0095" thick.
