The numbers of people who show up to assessments with no preparation never ceases to amaze. That is why people fail. The assessor has 25 mins to decide if you have flying ability and if he won't want to jump out of the window if he were to sit beside you all day. It's probably the most straightforward assessment in the business.
Where the APS MCC would really help is on type rating as the basic SOPs are the same (such as the setup). 4 guys on my assessment didn't do the APS and we all passed. 1 who did the APS did not pass. I know a ridiculous amount of guys who didn't do the APS and they all got in with decent assessment specific preparation.
I still think that personality traits are leading in terms of passing an assessment. Every retard can obtain an fATPL really, and everyone with an fATPL can probably fly an ILS in a sim.
As pointed out the APS doesn't necessarily benefit you in terms of passing an airline assessment. What else can they determine in that short time, other than that you're not retarded?
As far as I've heard the benefit of APS starts after passing the assessment.
