It would make a powerful statement though that they were serious about climate change. As I have already said Luton is not a strategic airport, Amsterdam is and look what is happening across the North Sea. As time passes the pressure increases on the UK government.

The Dutch government this week made a historic announcement that the number of flights arriving at Schiphol airport will be capped to bring down pollution.Schiphol, which is the third largest airport in Europe after London Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle in Paris, will be limited to 440,000 flights a year from 2023.
So Amsterdam applies a cap while Luton gets permission to nearly double. Good headline just like Luton Council declaring a climate emergency but excluding the aircraft flying out of its own airport, which is what has happened.

Luton has higher than average death tolls due to pollution with an average of 86 deaths a year. Aircraft are a contributing factor according to an old Council report.
