This is something I'd been looking into myself => Farringdon indeed makes for some interesting comparisons w.r.t. getting from central London to airports.
35 min + DART to LTN then compare with Farringdon to City airport that comes out at 40-42 min by the journey planners dependant on the Eliz / DLR / walk combination.
Luton actually scores quite highly in this respect.
And Thameslink is nominally a 24 h service (even if tube and Eliz. is not) which does not apply everywhere else.
P.S.
BHX comes out at 1 h 24 min + transit; that when you consider Farringdon / Euston is not direct AND that BHX is ~105 miles out ; c.f. ~38 mi for STD and ~39 mi for SEN.
