As even Russia is not stupid enough to drown their own troops, seems like a reasonable precaution to take. If they blow the dam, they also get to be responsible for the subsequent 2500 tons of fuel being turned into the largest nuclear disaster in history. Vlad gets his name in the books for that one. There is about 30 years worth of fuel rods in the spent rod cooling ponds, and they are going to lose coolant. At least they won't set off a H2 pop, it'll just be 2500 tons of meltdown of corium to the water table to mess up the Black Sea and Mediterranean water table. What could possibly go wrong with that?
