Bergamo is slightly overlooked but well worth a visit. Very picturesque old city, great restaurants and quite a bit going on. It’s also fairly progressive, veganism etc is quite big by Italian standards.
Yes, it's just under an hour by coach from BGY to the centre of Milan (on a good day).
And Bergamo's Città Alta is indeed bellissima !
