When QF101/100 used to operate to LAX it was always full, often oversold every night. It was a very popular option. The operation failed when the 747 AKL-LAX was replaced with a 330 which carried on to JFK. The high value freight which was carried on the 747 from LAX-JFK now went on a Polar or Atlas aircraft meaning the 747 freight capacity was no longer required. As the Qantas 330 product was no match for the ANZ 777 from AKL-LAX, the loads collapsed and the route was canned.
