Interesting and informative posting on the history and state of Air Malta. We've seen that since deregulation considation is everywhere, big business leads the way and smaller carriers without a strategic competitive advantage disappear. Sadly, I cannot see a strategic sweet spot for Air Malta. The only logical position I can see in competing with Ryanair group is to firstly improve the cost base, then build a small core network based on routes that Ryanair cannot (or are unlikely to) access like Paris CDG/ORY, Frankfurt, London LHR, Amsterdam, Geneva etc. Beyond that they'll need something radically different perhaps ACMI ops akin to something like Smartlynx or Titan. Otherwise I cannot see the operation being sustainable. Would be a sad day to see the brand disappear.
