It turns out that by BT home hub is the problem, it stopped letting me connect to my ISP smtp. If I use my 02 iphone as a hot spot it works.
Not sure how to fix a home hub.
I would probably start with a simple reboot, followed by a factory reset if the first one is unsuccessful.
It's possible that just getting a fresh IP address might help.
