Disability insurance for helicopter pilots (in Canada)
I'm trying to find some sort of income/loss of license/disability insurance to protect myself in case of an unexpected loss of flying privileges due to a medical issue. I've contacted a broker, who initially thought it was no problem, but apparently just learned that things may be more difficult when trying to insure a utility pilot. He sent me a form specifically for pilots, with a box for "exceptional risks" and the little list of examples provided reads about like my job description. Fire fighting? External loads? Dispersing product? Heli ski? I basically had to select "all of the above".
Needless to say I'm going to come up either uninsurable, or it'll cost a fortune. What have others in Canada done to have some protection? Are there perhaps products accessible through organizations like AOPA that may be more tailored for this profession?
