Indeed! ASAIC. Most RM Williams stuff these days is pretentious, overpriced gear mainly worn by City based trendies who want to look 'cool!'
I have never seen any 'Ringer' in places like the Pub in Boulia (A Saturday Night at that place was an 'Education') wearing any RM Williams boots or gear. Blundstone or Rossi boots to be sure though..
Ariat is the popular choice these days by ringers.
RM used to be popular boots and clothes in country areas, but the quality of the clothes went down and the price of everything went up. And by a lot! I bought my first pair of RM boots in 2008 for $330. They were bloody good boots too, and lasted very regular wear for over 10 years before they needed replacement. But then when they did, they were nearly $800!
But the point I was going to get to, was that maybe some people want to wear them because they are comfortable, not because they’re apparently “pretentious”. I know mine always have been comfortable. And they look perfectly acceptable as dress boots to go with a uniform.
