For those too young to remember, the Oz flagship of the 60s, the aircraft -sort-of-carrier Melbourne, had a tragic accident with HMAS Voyager, a destroyer, which sank with the loss of many lives. Melbourne was patched up, the captains were changed, and it later took out USS Evans in a similar manner.
Moral of the story, you don't brake-check an aircraft carrier.
