Talking of oil rigs and the Black Sea, I just flew over the length of this sea from Tbilisi Georgia in the east to Romania in the west, hugging the Turkish north coast most of the way. Our captain made no sudden moves northward (or in altitude) until we were generally nearer Istanbul, but it was a slightly nervous time, especially knowing the history of this airline. I was trying not to imagine the odd sea-launched Kalibr from a Russian sub, or a mistakenly triggered S400 or BUK system or something from Ukraine near Snake Island. A vivid geography lesson however, highly recommended for some of our youth.
