The approach of "War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength." looks like it's alive an well, with the next logical step being the narrative that the conflict was always there "We are at war with Eastasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia."
The Russians appear to be using "1984" not as a warning but as a how-to guide. I doubt Orwell ever intended that.
