The govt may take some comfort in the impediment the channel presents, given the efficacy of Brand X's river crossings in Donbas (12th times the charm?), and LCA's (submersibles) in the Black Sea. Still, have to keep a weather eye out for the cod fishermen, Irish Airforce, and soon-to-be Scottish Navy. At this juncture, our passports, having already lost the gloss of the EU emblem will be renamed "Kingdom", as "United" would be false advertising. Not to worry, if the son of a Russian Oligarch can get to be a member of the House of Lords over the objection of MI-5, then who are we to be concerned. The last 6 years of the island's history make one wistful for the calm tranquillity of the summer of '38. What could possibly go wrong, HAL? NATO grew out of the realization that the UN suuucked. What felt warm 'n fuzzy in '44 was not gonna function when veto power existed with the crazy. In '49, NATO gets drafted over scones and jam and tea, and took less time to draft the 14 articles than it takes to clean the clotted cream off the jam knife. Like the 15 commandments, depleted by an accidental dropping of the 3rd tablet in a cistern, the functional articles of the NATO treaty were lost in the sands of time, minor things such as getting rid of a belligerent NATO member, (one who attacks another NATO member... ) Once in always in. Amazing, given that problem triggered NATO as an outgrowth of the UN. The Fermi paradox needs to be restated, as there is apparently no intelligent life in our solar system either, let alone the rest of the galaxy or universe. Drake was an optimist.
