We do not have a problem

We take the mental health of our Flight Crew very seriously. We provide several programs available to the Flight crew and we believe that is sufficient.

We provide suitable income from our most Senior Captain to our most Junior Second Officer and provide a lifestyle our Flight Crew will have in their home country.

Our Management Team just provided the Local Media of the increases we provided to housing and the education allowance boasting a $93,000 USD annually to the crew. We did not provide the numbers for the cost of housing (one of the highest in the world) nor did we provide the numbers for schooling in Hong Kong.

We don’t like to use this information as it will show our package is not nearly enough to retain the Talent. We believe in the Flight Operations Department/Management of Aircrew that you don’t actually need talent to fly airplanes. Monkeys can do that job and that is why at The CPG we want to go with single pilot operations in cruise.

All the isolation we have put the Flight Crew through we provide enough help with Mental Health and we pay accordingly for their service. We in the Flight Operations Department believe none of our flight crew has enough mental health issues that could cause the same demise of MU 5735. We don’t think that could ever happen to one of The CPG airplanes. Is there a reason our Friends to the North have not discussed the cause of that incident? We can discuss that in another thread.

The Management of our Flight Crew is managed by the very best the world has to offer, if Flight Crew have issues our Team is very flexible to help with Flight Crew needs. Flight Crew Management is the most flexible operation in the whole of The CPG. If a crew member has not seen their Family in years we will give them the time off where we can but sometimes that is not possible. Even though we operate only 2 percent of our flying operations we find it better to have crew sit in Hong Kong and do nothing or very minimal flying. We believe this does not impact the Mental Health of our Flight Crew. Even if the Flight Crew requests Unpaid Leave to see their Families overseas, we believe it is much better for their Mental Health to stay isolated here in Hong Kong. The General Manager of Aircrew knows what is best for our Flight Crews Mental Health. She has had pilots resign due to this fact but she has a plan to recruit more crew. She has boasted in the past that she only reports to the CEO and she keeps him well informed with her half-truths.

We have spent millions on a new Flight Crew Management Rostering system. The Jeppesen System is not the best rostering system in the world therefore we have as staff of 100 or more to manage the Jeppesen System. We at The CPG have very special needs and the rostering system is just not up to par for our needs. We know other airlines around the world that have the Jeppesen system and only operate the system with less than 15 full time employees. We have very special needs.

We have a very competitive Medical Package for our CPG employees while on and off duty. If those limits are used up by a tragedy like accident or sickness it is not the fault of The CPG. If you get cancer and have to pay out of pocket is not the fault of The CPG (as one of our pilots had). Our package is sufficient and the $5000 USD that Flight Crew are paying for Medical Insurance is wasting their money. We know of other airlines in the world that make their own Flight Crew pay out of pocket for Medical Insurance. It is Industry Standard and Best Practices, just ask British Airways Pilots.

As for the Pilot Shortage, we still have too many pilots. We would like to get this number down to below 1900 pilots by the year end to fit our NEW operations of The CPG. We are hoping that our experienced and senior Flight Crew leave the system, they are just overpaid even on our latest Conditions of Service. We don’t need experienced Flight Crew to fly airplanes, the aircraft almost fly themselves nowadays. We believe the recruitment of new 20 year old Cadets will suffice. So the next time you see your Flight Crew taking selfies by the landing gear or the engine, just remember that we have your safety in mind and are providing you with the most experience you need. The CPG have been in this business a long time and we know what is best for our passengers.
