Thanks for your honest reflection.

I met a fellow a couple of years ago who took the moral high ground as well and refused to pay a penny for a type rating, even when it was as low as €5,000. Instead he stayed in his airport ground ops job paying £35k a year and was renewing his IR for the fifth time when I met him. I often think of him and wonder does he realise he'd be looking at his command and earning a lot more than he currently does if he paid for his type rating those years ago.
