Not quite there yet but I have to go out.................
Finding the answer was based on the fact that there aren't many junctions of that shape - even pre Beeching. You have to have a big town on one end of the line. Then the airfield was all built over so it had to be a (relatively) new and large development - again, near a big town rather than in the wilds of Lincolnshire for example. With the correct orientation the junction had to be north of the centre. There were probably only a dozen possibilities, if that . The mention of Worcester suggested somewhere west ... and hay presto!
