Many European states (including those in the EU) think they can shelter under the NATO umbrella as members but not pay their full dues. At the same time they reserve the right to openly lobby against those who do so, especially against the USA and UK. Rather than continue in that way they should fully support NATO and pay up. The political game of raising a so called European Army needs to cease if they truly want security. Ditto with the ESC. We have a common defence organisation already, implemented by treaty in 1949. All it needs is total commitment, as does any such defence agreement.
