No, it doesn't look like you do understand. The vaccine vastly reduces, but does not entirely eliminate, the likelihood of severe outcomes and death. It doesn't provide blanket protection against infection nor prevent every case, not even the most ardent vaccine promoters are claiming that it does. What is achieved is a reduction in the chances of being infected, and hence passing it on to others, and that significant reduction in chances of severe negative outcomes. It's not a binary thing where once 90% or 95% are vaccinated, there is no more covid, or that there can be no negative outcomes in spite of vaccinations.
